Engagement Session Tips for SoCal Couples

Engagement Session Tips for SoCal Couples

An engagement session is often the first time a couple works with their wedding photographer, which makes it a useful trial run as much as a photo shoot.

Pick a location that means something. A favorite neighborhood, the place you had your first date, or a coastline spot all photograph better when there's a real reason you're there, not just a generic backdrop.

Shoot during golden hour when possible. The hour before sunset gives the softest, warmest light across nearly any Southern California location. Worth building your session time around if you have flexibility.

Bring a second outfit. A simple change, a jacket, a different dress, rolled-up sleeves, gives variety across the gallery without needing a second location.

Plan for movement. Walking, talking, and interacting naturally produces more genuine expressions than standing still and posing for every frame.

Think about how you'll use the photos. Save-the-dates, a wedding website, or a guest book each benefit from slightly different framing, mention any specific plans before the session so we can shoot with them in mind.
